KENNEWICK – The Kennewick School District will ask voters to decide on an educational programs and operations levy on February 14. The district said ballots should arrive this week.
The district ran levy elections in both February and April 2022 that failed to pass. The district said it is losing $38 million in funding for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years, including $20 million in local levy revenue and $14 million in state local effort assistance funding.
If the local levy passes, the district will receive an additional $15 million per year in state LEA funding. If the levy doesn’t pass, KSD said it will not receive these funds and significant budget cuts will need to be made.
Further, the district says those “drastic” cuts could impact athletics, activities, and staff. Learn more at www.ksd.org/levy.
