KENNEWICK – A Kennewick police officer was injured Saturday in the parking lot of the Red Lion Inn and Suites, 5616 West Clearwater Avenue, by a suspect who was fleeing that location in a vehicle.

KPD said officers made contact at 11:13 p.m. with a vehicle driven by wanted subject, David Richard Katon, 38, of Kennewick.

Upon contact, officers attempted to detain Katon and observed he had a firearm. Disregarding officer’s commands, Katon, who police said had a firearm, fled the parking lot in a vehicle. While doing so, he struck an officer and continued fleeing in a reckless manner. KPD states that the officer was treated and released to return to duty. No name is being released at this time.

A pursuit was initiated and Katon was stopped in the area of West 10th Avenue and U.S. 395. Katon was arrested and charged with numerous crimes. He was booked into the Benton County Jail.
