Kennewick man killed in hunting accident in Wallowa County

WALLOWA COUNTY – (Release from Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office) On Tuesday, May 14th at about 5:05 PM, the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received an emergency call of someone possibly shot in the 68000 block of Elk Mountain Road, Enterprise.

Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Oregon State Police, and Emergency Medical Services responded to the area as soon as notified.

Once First Responders arrived on scene, they located a deceased male that had died from a single gunshot.

The male was identified as (EMANUEL) “BILL” JOHN ZIEGLER of Kennewick, WA. Relatives were notified immediately after the scene had been secured by Law Enforcement.

ZIEGLER had been accompanied by friends as they were on ATV’s out shooting ground squirrels on private property when he accidently shot himself resulting in his death.

There was no evidence to lead investigators to believe the death was anything other than an unfortunate tragic accident, and our hearts go out to his family and friends.

The investigation was conducted by the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Wallowa County District Attorney’s Office, and the Wallowa County Medical Examiner.
