BAKER CITY – (Information from Keating Elementary) Keating Elementary was honored to be recipients of a grant from the 6.25 Foundation for our library. Mr. and Mrs. Koo came to school to present the grant. The 6.25 Foundation honors the American soldiers who fought and died in the Korean War. June 25 is the day America entered the war.

Students have been studying the Korean War for the last eight weeks and were able to present to Mr. and Mrs. Koo about what they have learned. Trooper Mercado shared with our students about his time in Korea while he was in the Marines.

We also enjoyed a delicious lunch with our guests as well as many local law enforcement officers.

This was a day that our students, staff, and community members will always remember. We are honored to name our library after Sergeant Hamilton, the first Oregonian to die in the Korean War.
