ISLAND CITY – One of the joys of a beautiful autumn day is walking in a pumpkin patch and finding the most perfect pumpkin to take home. That’s just what Island City Elementary kindergartners, first graders and second graders got to do at the Pick’n Patch on lower Cove Road.
According to Island City Elementary Principal Brett Smith, the field trips are even more special, since they are among the first ones the school has had in a year and a half due to the pandemic. “I think both our students and our teachers and staff are excited to experience something more normal like a field trip like this,” Smith said.
When the bus returned to school, Smith helped first graders navigate the bus steps while carrying their pumpkins. Judging from the excitement, field trips are still one of the best things about elementary school!
