BAKER COUNTY – A juvenile was injured in a crash in Baker County on Thursday, October 19.
The incident occurred around 4:57 p.m. on Virtue Mine Road, east of Baker City, and the Baker County Sheriff’s Office received a crash notification from an Apple device, pinpointing the location near the intersection of Virtue Mine and Ruckles Creek Road.
Emergency responders, including medics, fire, and law enforcement, quickly mobilized to the scene. However, as they were en route, Dispatch received a 911 call from one of the parties involved in the crash. Unfortunately, the call was dropped before additional information could be obtained.
Upon arrival, Deputy Mills of the BCSO discovered five juveniles who were involved in the crash. The investigation revealed that the vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer, was heading east on Virtue Mine Road when the driver lost control, leading the vehicle to go down an embankment.
One female juvenile sustained injuries in the crash and was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention. The remaining four juveniles were released to their family members.
Speed is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash, and the investigation is currently ongoing.
The Baker County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from Metro West Ambulance, Keating Rural Fire Protection District, and Baker Rural Fire during the incident.
