WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla police detained a boy after being led on a high-speed pursuit from Walla Walla into College Place over the weekend. WWPD reports that wasn’t officers’ first encounter with the young man.
“Officers attempted to stop a pickup near 13th and Rose streets after spotting it form the night before when the truck failed to stop for police and took off at a high rate of speed,” Sgt. Gunner Fulmer wrote in a news release. “Officers stated the night before the truck did not have any license plates, but on this contact, it had license plates that were coming back stolen.”
The truck reached a dead end near Maria Street and Blalock Road. As officers were exiting their patrol cars, the driver took off again, nearly striking one of the officers and leading the police further into College Place.
Fulmer reported that the truck eventually pulled into Andy’s Market and stopped.
“Officers were surprised to see three younger juveniles exit the truck and a juvenile driver,” he wrote.
The driver was taken into custody without further incident. Charges have been submitted for first-degree assault, two counts of attempting to elude a police vehicle, and reckless endangerment. WWPD was assisted by College Place Police Department, Washington State Patrol, and the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office.
