WESTON – Kannan Rowdy Weathers, 14, is heading to the Junior High National Finals in Georgia this month. The eighth-grade student at Weston Middle School took the Oregon competition by storm in his rookie year of competition.
He finished as Oregon’s bull riding champion, placed second in bareback, and came in third in saddle bronc competition. The rookie won the average in both bulls and bareback and will compete in all three rough stock events at the national competition in Perry, Georgia which is south of Macon, about 2,500 miles from home.
“We are so proud of him,” Kimberly Weathers said of her rough riding son. “His rookie year and he did amazing.”
The finals will be held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds from June 18-24. Contestants must check in by June 17. The hard part of taking part in the finals is the cross-country trip. Expenses include flights, rental car, rental trailer, meals and other necessities. Anyone who wants to chip in to help Kannan get to Georgia can email kmccurry21@gmail.com for more information.
