PENDLETON – Hermiston, Pendleton, and Walla Walla experienced record-setting heat as July drew to a close. National Weather Service Meteorologist Camden Plunkett said that all three cities set daily high temperature records.
“Pendleton set daily record highs of 108, 111, and 109 degrees on the 28th, 29th, and 30th,” he said. “Hermiston set five daily record high temperatures of 102, 104, 109, 112, and 110 on the 20th, 25th, 28th, 29th, and 30th. Walla Walla set one, 108 degrees, on the 29th.”
The average daily high temperature for the month of July was 94.2 degrees in Pendleton, above the 89.2 average. July was the 16th hottest month since record-keeping began in 1892.
As for precipitation, it was slightly above normal at 0.31 of an inch. Normal is a paltry 0.26 of an inch.
