Joseph Charter School’s Lauren McBurney Named FCCLA National Officer Candidate – Only One from Oregon

JOSEPH — Joseph Charter School Junior Lauren McBurney is making waves both in Oregon and across the nation as she has been named one of only 27 National Officer Candidates for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) – and the only student representing Oregon.

Lauren has served as an Oregon FCCLA State Officer for the past four years, serving as State President for school years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.  This year she is serving as State VP of membership. A dedicated FCCLA member for five years, she has attended five National Leadership Conferences, 5 State Leadership Conferences, 3 National Fall Conferences, and many smaller regional events.

Her commitment to excellence and leadership is reflected in her accomplishments: she’s earned silver awards at four National Leadership Conferences and was a Top 10 National Finalist in 2022 for her Chapter Service Project, 3rd in the nation in Impromptu Speaking in 2023,  along with many other honors and achievements on the state and national levels.

Outside of FCCLA, Lauren is equally driven. She enjoys horseback riding, spending time outdoors, and volunteering in her community. Looking ahead, she hopes to attend the United States Air Force Academy and eventually earn a doctorate in pediatric trauma surgery to pursue a career in trauma care.

Lauren will represent Oregon FCCLA this July at the 2025 National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida, where thousands of FCCLA members and advisers will gather for workshops, competitions, and networking opportunities. This year’s theme, Dare to Dream, aligns perfectly with Lauren’s ambition and commitment to leadership.

FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with family as its central focus, empowering students in grades 6–12 through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Since its founding in 1945, FCCLA has impacted more than nine million youth across the nation.

As Oregon FCCLA continues to grow and provide transformative leadership opportunities, students like Lauren McBurney are proving that young leaders from small towns can make a national impact.
