UMATILLA – Beloved McNary Heights Elementary School third-grade teacher Jordan Bennett died from ovarian cancer on June 3, 2023. Her family has founded the Jordan Bennett Legacy Foundation. Last week they visited with third-grade students at McNary, gifting each of them with a book in her memory.

Parents Debby and Brian Bennett visited the school twice last year and plan two more visits this year. The books being given to the students honor Bennett’s love of teaching.

Supporting elementary education isn’t the only goal of the foundation. The other goal is to support the sport of softball. Bennett grew up playing softball and later coached at Umatilla High School.

The foundation provides annual scholarships to softball players at UHS and other surrounding schools to assist with post-education expenses. It also provides financial support to players in need of essential equipment like cleats and mitts.

More information about the foundation is at https://www.jordanbennettlegacy.org/.
