JOHN DAY – John Day Mayor Heather Rookstool was on KJDY’s Coffee Time Tuesday, and said that the new City Manager, Melissa Bethel, will step into her new position on Tuesday, January 2nd. Later that same day, a meet-and-greet will be held at the John Day Fire Hall:
“We do have a meet- and-greet scheduled the first day she comes in. So, it will be at the Fire Hall from 4 to 6. It’s just casual. Come in and meet her.
I thought it was a good way to introduce her to the community before council meetings and stuff like that.”
The John Day City Council has already approved a resolution to remove any managerial authorities from the Mayor (Heather Rookstool) and Council President (Dave Holland) as of January 1st. Rookstool said she is excited to go back to being “just the mayor” following Bethel’s start date.
