JOHN DAY – Oregon’s first 3D printed homes are coming to John Day. Yesterday on KJDY’s Coffee Time, John Day City Manager Nick Green announced they’ve received grant funding from the DLCD:
“We’ve put programs in place to incentivize development. We’re going to be announcing a grant award to do the first 3D home printing in the state of Oregon, and that will be one way we can build at-scale without having to increase the number of general contractors in our area right out of the gate.”
The city is teaming with Alquist 3D, the city of Burns and Town of Lakeview. The goal is to build 100 homes in each community over the next five years. According to City of John Day Government’s Facebook page, the first build is planned for The Ridge, a master-planned development overlooking the John Day River. This will provide veteran’s preference housing at a target rental rate of $850 a month for local veterans who honorably served in the armed forces. Find more on the housing at cityofjohnday.com.
