JOHN DAY – John Day City Manager Melissa Bethel has put out a notice to suspend operations on the city’s Urban Renewal Agency program. Bethel was in the studio last week, and shared her reasoning:
“We are suspending the programs out of the U.R.A. for the near future, until we are through budget, so we can see what funds are there and available. The budget is sustained through a loan, and so we have a loan that could possibly come due with a payment. The taxes we get from the U.R.A. would barely cover the loan, and then paying out any programs at this time could put us in a deficit.”
Bethel said once the budget is done, “the council will be able to decide when they see the numbers what to continue with or what to do.”
