John Day Mayor Rookstool loses recall election

JOHN DAY – A special recall election was held Tuesday evening by John Day voters to decide whether Mayor Heather Rookstool will remain in office, or if the voters (or the city council) will be tasked with selecting a new mayor.
According to information from the Grant County Clerk’s office, the polls are closed and the unofficial results are in. John Day voters chose narrowly to recall Heather Rookstool from the position of mayor, 252 to 224 votes.
