John Day Fossil Beds National Monument celebrates 50th anniversary

JOHN DAY – The conversation was all about fossils on KJDY’s Coffee Time Thursday morning. John Day Fossil Beds National Monument Chief Paleontologist Dr. Nicholas Famoso said this year, the park is celebrating an important anniversary:

“We’ve got the 50^th Anniversary this year. We’re not quite sure what we’re going to be planning yet, but we’re in the process of making all those plans…

Another exciting thing is that we are also the theme of this year’s National Fossil Day logo art!”

Famoso said the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument was first declared in 1955 on October 8^th.
