JOHN DAY – Planting season is upon us, and the John Day Community Garden has opened once again. Located off the Third Street Extension near the Grant County Fairgrounds, the garden has availability for folks to secure a plot and grow their own food, but also features some community involvement that gives back. John Day Community Garden Board President Jesse Shaefer explains:
“We always try to have plots where we grow food to donate to the food bank. Also, in the past—and we’re trying revive it this year—we’ve planted a pumpkin patch and that’s open in the fall for community members to come and pick out a free pumpkin.”
Folks interested in renting a plot or volunteering with the garden can email johndaycommunitygarden@gmail.com.
