JOHN DAY – Melissa Bethel, John Day City Manager, was in KJDY Studios last week and sat in on an episode of Coffee Time following a budget meeting the night before. Bethel said in some aspects, the city is doing well financially, and in others they are suffering. She referred partly to the street funds:
“Our street department, as we’ve talked about before on this show, is hurting. So, we’re going to figure out something there in the long term. Right now we’re okay, but it is not sustainable. We’re going to have to do with our street fund…
Council is going to have to take a look at policy and what we do there. If we want to continue services, we have to somehow figure out how to fill potholes and fix streets.”
The next budget meeting is scheduled for May 14th.
