JOHN DAY – John Day Interim City Manager Corum Ketchum has decided not to renew his contract with the city. Ketchum informed John Day city officials on December 14th that his last day at work will be December 28th. Current Mayor Ron Lundbom says this leaves the city without an official to sign paychecks and other important articles of business.
A special meeting has been called for this evening, Dec. 20th, at 7 p.m. in the John Day Fire Hall. Lundbom said as it stands, himself and Council President Dave Holland are the only city officials qualified to affix their signature to paychecks. They’ll discuss this and the next course of action for hiring the next city manager:
“Rest assured, we’ve been in contact with CRS, our city insurance, and with the League [of Oregon Cities] and with our attorney, so we’re all on the same page.
…in fact the League has given us a list of some possible interim people that might be interested, that are in the game.”
John Day Mayor-Elect Heather Rookstool, along with two new City Councilors, will take their place at the first meeting in January—slated for Tuesday, the 10th. Find the meeting agendas and supporting documents at cityofjohnday.com.
