Jim Jerome presented with Grant County Service to Seniors Award

JOHN DAY – The Grant County Senior Citizens Advisory Council recently handed out their latest Service to Seniors Award at a John Day Senior Center luncheon. Jim Jerome, a longtime John Day resident and Vietnam Air Force veteran, was the recipient.

Senior Citizens Advisory Council Chair Rick LaMountain informed KJDY listeners that Jim was recognized for his many years of work with the Elks Lodge (B.P.O.E) in coordinating rides for veterans to out-of-town medical appointments. LaMountain said Jim has been giving rides for the last eleven years:

โ€œJim estimates that heโ€™s either coordinated or driven himself about 500 of these rides since he began volunteering with the program in 2014. That works [out] to about one-a-week for an entire decade. This volunteer work has been of enormous benefit for Grant County veterans, and we are very honored to present this award to Jim. We think his generosity and his patriotism really represent the best of our community.โ€

LaMountain said three more individuals will be presented with Service to Seniors Awards in the coming weeks.
