Jennifer Spencer named Washington State Penitentiary Employee of the Year

WALLA WALLA — The Washington State Penitentiary has officially named Resolutions Specialist Jennifer Spencer as its Employee of the Year, the Washington State Department of Corrections announced Thursday.

Spencer earned the top annual honor after voluntarily absorbing the full responsibilities of a corrections specialist assistant position during a period of acute facility staffing shortages. Institutional leaders praised her exceptional capability to manage the dual workloads within a high-tempo environment, noting her strict adherence to DOC compliance guidelines and tight resolution deadlines.

Colleagues recognized Spencer as a premier statewide institutional resource and an exemplary role model among the staff.

Outside her duties at the penitentiary, Spencer resides with her husband and two sons, and frequently spends her personal time camping, fishing, and attending music concerts.
