JOHN DAY – January is National Stalking Prevention Month. Shelly Whale with Heart of Grant County said stalking is a crime, but may not always immediately look that way:

“What is interesting, as we’ve discussed, a lot of the behaviors, in themselves, are not illegal or crimes; but the context of what is happening and how long it has been going on and the fear and alarm and apprehension all constitute what stalking is all about.”

Stalkingawareness.org defines the crime as: A pattern of behavior directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to feel fear.

Heart of Grant County is available 24/7 for victims of stalking and domestic violence. Call 541-620-1342.
