LA GRANDE – Jammin at the Fair is the theme at the Union County Fair which begins today (Wednesday, August 4, 2021). Kathy Gover Shaw, Fair Manager, said a lot of the same events will entertain everyone this year, with a return of some of the same vendors from the past. Union County is one of 9-fairs in the state that will not have a carnival due to the company going out of business. Unfortunately, other carnivals were already book for the season. However, a company called Bubble Fun will replace the carnival for the family entertainment.
The 4-H kids will continuing showing their animals and will be judged for their hard work. Gover Shaw said, since there was no fair last year, a lot of Union County and beyond are getting involved in showing their support.
For many years Elkhorn Media Group normally coordinates the local talent show, where winners would go on to compete at the Oregon State Fair. This year the talent portion was canceled at the state and local levels. Grover Shaw said hopefully the Talent Contest will return next year.
The Union Fair runs through Saturday with Senior Day on Thursday with the gates opening at 8:00 am and exhibits open at 10:00 am for viewing.
