On August 8, 2021 at about 4:24 PM, near the 1700 block of Valley Avenue; Baker City Police attempted to take James Reedy into custody for multiple arrest warrants. James fled on foot and ran, uninvited, into a residence at 1783 ½ Valley Avenue.
Officers learned the tenants of 1783 ½ Valley knew James but did not want him inside their house.
James barricaded himself inside a bathroom of this house and refused to come out, arming himself with a knife and threating self-harm. Baker City Police, Baker County Sheriff’s Deputies and Mental Health Crisis all attempted to negotiate with James. James destroyed a police phone given to him through the door while attempting to talk to him and he refused to peacefully come out of the bathroom.
After exhausting all efforts to get James out of the house that James did not belong in, police forced open the door that James was hiding behind. With the assistance of Baker County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police, James taken into custody without injury to James or the responding officers.
