PENDLETON – Contractors interested in bidding on the renovation of the Umatilla County Jail submitted their bids Tuesday. Sheriff Terry Rowan met with them before that and learned that his goal of beginning the work in December and finish in March really doesn’t make sense, because of supply problems.
“Just the doors and the door frames for a correctional facility is somewhere between 16 and 20 weeks out,” he said.
Rowan said he hopes whoever is awarded the contract places orders for needed materials quickly.
“We could possibly do a March start date and then a substantial completion by mid- to late-June,” he said.
The renovation work will be done indoors. The county is using a sally port to reconfigure its intake area to be better suited to those who may be suffering from mental or substance abuse crises.
