Jail is currently free of COVID-19

WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Emergency Operations Center has updated the COVID-19 outbreak at the Walla Walla County Corrections Center. A total of 26 inmates and eight staff members had tested positive for the virus. All 34 are now considered recovered, meaning there are no active COVID-19 cases at the facility.

The Department of Community Health has administered a total of 95 tests to staff and inmates and will continue to provide ongoing testing. A total of 68 inmates and 27 staff members have been tested. Of those, all tests have been completed and all were negative.

There are currently 75 inmates housed at the facility. Its capacity is set at 102. The Walla Walla County Corrections Department is working with case investigators at DCH to identify cases and contacts and to follow Centers for Disease Control guidelines for quarantining and isolating inmates.

During the outbreak, the county was assisted by the state of Washington.

“The corrections department and DCH are working to ensure that inmates who are released from the jail due to a court order, completed jail sentence, or bail payment are able to quarantine or isolate if required by CDC guidelines,” a news release stated.
