PENDLETON – The ice skating rink at Roy Raley Park, 1205 S.W. Court Ave. in Pendleton is open for business. Once again, the aging rink gave Pendleton Parks and Recreation Crews a difficult time, but Director Liam Hughes said they made it work.
“Every year for the last few years when we set up the rink, we have had to make repairs,” Hughes said. “We have had the rink for over 20 years and it was used when we bought it. It’s well past its expected lifespan. This year we had a break in the main header that collects coolant from all the cooling lines. We also had multiple leaks in the cooling lines themselves.”
Hughes said that his department has received a $334,000 grant from Oregon State Parks to go toward repair of the rink, but the project will far exceed that money. Parks and rec is currently working on securing more funding. Meanwhile, the Pendleton Ice Sports Boosters Club is raising funds to cover the cost of the new dasher boards as part of that project.
The rink is open Monday through Thursday from 3:30-6 p.m., Friday from 3:30-8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon-8 p.m. It’s hours will extend once schools break for the holidays. From Dec. 21 to Jan. 5, 2025, the hours will be from noon-8 p.m. Monday through Sunday. It will be closed on Christmas Day. General admission without skate rental is $3. With skate rental it’s $5. A season pass is $45 and a 10-visit punch card is $35.
