It’s election time in Oregon

UMATILLA & MORROW – Oregon’s counties have special elections on May 16, and the last day to mail ballots to voters was Friday. Morrow County District Attorney Justin Nelson said while there may not be nonstop commercials as there are for major elections, this vote matters.
“I can’t say for sure the actions of our state representative directly affects me, but I know if something changes on the school board, that affects my kids,” he said.
There are a number of offices open for election throughout both counties, and their county websites offer more information about them. The seats up for election include school boards, fire districts, water control districts, parks and recreation districts, library districts, ambulance districts, and cemetery districts.
Oregon’s latest election laws ensure that if a ballot is postmarked before 8 p.m. on May 16 it will be counted. Postage is paid by the state. Both Morrow and Umatilla counties have a number of drop boxes as well, listed on their websites.
