HERMISTON – Hermiston School District students will have no school on Monday, April 12 as staff and students prepare for a return on Tuesday, April 13. The students will be back in their classrooms full time, five days a week.

The reduction in the physical distancing limit from six feet to three feet in most cases allows more students in each classroom and building at a time. Start and stop times are set for each grade level.

Elementary students will go to school from 7:55 a.m. to 2:30 pm., but will be released at 1:45 on Wednesdays. Middle school students will attend classes from 8:30 a.m. to 3:18 p.m., but will start school at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesdays. High school students will go from 8:25 a.m. to 3:25 p.m., with a Wednesday start time of 9:10 a.m.

Students will be required to wear masks and frequently wash their hands while on campus. They will also have to follow the three-foot physical distance requirement. Students will be able to bring a water bottle and backpack to school, but they must take them home each day. Buildings will be contacting families with further specifics.

“This is welcome news following updated federal guidance,” Superintendent Tricia Mooney said in a district news release. “I want to express my gratitude for the community’s support and for everyone doing their part to help keep each other safe and reduce case counts.”
