HERMISTON – School starts Monday in Hermiston. Superintendent Tricia Mooney says she’s excited to see all the students getting ready for full-time, in-person learning, even if those involved are wearing masks.
“When our kids are in-person in our classrooms with our teachers, it changes things,” she said. “Instruction is better. Our kids are connected with their peers in a different way and making the connections with adults.”
The Hermiston School District does offer distance learning via Hermiston Online, but Mooney said that last year educators learned that students learn better inside their classrooms. “We do offer that for students and families who feel that’s a need,” she said.
“In the past year we have learned that learning for our students is different when they’re able to make connection with adults. As superintendent, it’s my responsibility to do everything possible that we keep our students face-to-face this year.”
