WALLA WALLA – An investigation on March 15 into dead dogs in Burbank by the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office led to the Saturday arrest of Holly Ranea Ward, 41. She was arrested on probable cause of animal cruelty in the first- and second-degree. Ward’s hometown is not listed in court documents.

After being evicted recently, Ward stayed in an RV on the 200 block of Harbor Boulevard for a few nights and asked if she could keep six or seven dogs in a vacant house next door for a short period of time. Both the RV and vacant house are owned by an acquaintance of Ward.

About a week later, the acquaintance learned the dogs were still in the house and Ward had not returned. Upon closer inspection, two dogs were found deceased, one is believed to have escaped, and four were left without food or water. Court documents state there was no food or water anywhere in the house, which was covered in urine and dog feces.

The four surviving dogs are now being cared for elsewhere. Ward made her first appearance at Walla Walla County Superior Court Monday and was released on her own recognizance. She’s scheduled to be arraigned on April 7.
