COLLEGE PLACE – College Place Public Schools has hired Susan Bell as interim principal for Sager Middle School for the coming school year. After a short but thorough search, the board of directors elected to hire Bell who lives near the middle school.
“I am so grateful for this opportunity to support the great students and staff at John Sager Middle School and to support the great teaching and learning that goes on there,” Bell said. “I am looking forward to the start of the new year and being a part of the College Place Public Schools community.”
Bell is retired from the Touchet School District where from 2011 to 2019 she worked as a teacher, middle school principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. College Place Superintendent Jim Fry said various factors led the district to the decision to hire an interim principal including the late departure of the former principal and the position not garnering the kind of interest it would have if the position had been posted earlier.
“We don’t want to rush the process due to the lateness of the opening and instead will be able to slow it down and ensure we do our due diligence to get the best fit for our community, our district, and Sager,” Fry said.
Bell will fill the position for the school year but will not be eligible to apply for the permanent job once it is advertised to encourage external applicants to apply. The district plans to engage the community, staff, and students for further input before advertising for the position in early 2023 for a July 1, 2023, start date.
