OLYMPIA –Gov. Jay Inslee announced Monday he does not plan to seek a fourth term. Inslee, who is 72, was most recently re-elected in 2020 and became only the second Washington governor elected to three consecutive terms.
“Serving the people as governor of Washington state has been my greatest honor,” Inslee said. “During a decade of dynamic change, we’ve made Washington a beacon for progress for the nation. I’m ready to pass the torch.”
Inslee, a Democrat, was first elected as governor in 2012. He is the longest-serving governor in office in the U.S. as Washington does not have term limits.
In his announcement, Inslee said he was proud of the accomplishments Washington made on so many fronts – climate, financial aid, paid family leave, legal justice system reforms, gun safety, and reproductive freedom.
