PENDLETON – The 2021 First Citizens Banquet saw two Pendleton City Council members named Woman of the Year and Man of the Year. Carole Innes and Jake Cambier were honored by the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce at the event tonight (Friday) at the Pendleton Convention Center.
Innes has been active in Pendleton Altrusa for more than 30 years and has served on the Blue Mountain Community College Foundation Board of Directors for 13 years. She has also served on the Umatilla County Planning Commission and the Salvation Army Board of Directors. She volunteers for Neighbor 2 Neighbor, the Pendleton Downtown Association, and many other organizations.
Cambier was lauded by those supporting his nomination for his humility, with people writing that everything he does, he does without trying to draw attention to himself. He currently serves on at least eight boards or committees and is a member of many organizations. Cambier is a retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force and continues to advocate for veterans through his public service.
The Business of the Year award was given to Pendleton Underground Tours. Get Wild in Pendleton’s collaboration team won the Tourism Excellence award. Boss of the Year went to Kelli and Rodney Bullington. Ronda Thornburg of the Pendleton School District was named employee of the year. Volunteer of the Year is Andy VanderPlaat for Cattle Baron’s Weekend. Chamber CEO Cheri Rosenberg was given the President’s Award by President Velda Arnaud.
