WALLA WALLA – The United Way of the Blue Mountains and the Blue Mountain Community Foundation have organized The Blue Mountain Region Long-Term Recovery Group, a coalition to help those in Walla Walla and Columbia counties impacted by the February flood.

The coalition consists of local organizations including nonprofits, faith-based organizations, representatives from the public sector and others who hope to provide volunteer labor, materials, donated resources, referrals, and additional means of assistance to support recovery. Joy Smith is the point of contact for the flood victims in Waitsburg and Columbia County and has begun performing a needs assessment and health and safety check.

She can be contacted at waitsburgcc@icloud.com or by phone at 509-539-8773 by families that were impacted by the flood. People who wish to report someone who was impacted are also encouraged to reach out. The coalition states that one of its first steps is to reconnect with flood survivors to see where current needs stand and what may have changed since the initial intake performed by emergency management in February.
