IMBLER – The Imbler Rural Fire Department recently announced the acquisition of a critical piece of new support equipment thanks to a generous grant from the Wildhorse Foundation, a fire turnout washer, heater and dryer! While it may seem like an odd choice, active fires aren’t the only hazard that local firefighters have to deal with day-to-day. Debris and smoke residues left behind by uncontrolled burning can easily carry serious health impacts to anyone exposed.
As written by the Imbler RFD in a recent post announcing the new equipment:
“We didn’t have the capability to clean turn outs at our station until this grant was made available to us. Why is this important? Firefighters can be at an elevated risk of some kinds of cancers due to exposure to the products of combustion and smoke. Cleaning turnouts in dedicated equipment after structure fires will reduce that risk.
We want to thank the Wildhorse Foundation for supporting our community and our firefighter’s health with this grant!”
