Idaho Power Warns against Solar Scams and Misrepresentations

BAKER COUNTY – Idaho Power continues to receive calls from customers reporting misleading statements from individuals selling rooftop solar panels. Common fraudulent tactics from door-to-door salespeople include individuals saying that Idaho Power sent them, that they work for Idaho Power or they are partnering with Idaho Power to sell solar products. These are inaccurate statements.

As a reminder, Idaho Power DOES NOT:

  • Sell products or services door-to-door
  • Partner with or endorse specific solar companies
  • Ask to see a copy of your bill at your home
  • Pay customers to install solar

Some salespeople are also misrepresenting solar payback periods, tax credit information and how excess energy is credited and in what amount. Some are also falsely telling customers they will “never pay a power bill again.”

Idaho Power encourages customers to get the facts about solar energy before making a financial commitment. For more info, visit idahopower.com/solar. If you have questions or concerns about an interaction with a door-to-door salesperson, contact our Customer Care Team at 1-800-632-6605.
