BAKER & MALHEUR COUNTIES – Many of Idaho Power’s agriculture and residential customers in Eastern Oregon could be seeing a potential rate hike this fall.

New rates would go into effect October 15, 2024, if a rate increase proposed by Idaho Power is approved by the Oregon Public Utility Commission (OPUC).

Idaho Power serves areas of southern and eastern Baker County, as well as a majority of Malheur County, including Ontario.

The filing for the rate increase states that electric bills could go up by 35.67% for irrigation customers, 26.76% for residential customers, 18.94% for small general customers, 14.66% for large general and lighting customers, and 7.81% for large power customers.

The OPUC, which has the authority to modify Idaho Power’s request, is taking comments on the topic until April 3. There will be a public meeting in Ontario on March 20 from 6-7 p.m. at the Four Rivers Cultural Center, 676 SW 5th Ave, Ontario, OR 97914.

The public can also submit comments online at:
