CANYON COUNTY, Idaho – Idaho State Police were able to safely stop a fleeing vehicle this morning (Thursday) and take three teenagers into custody. A fourth ran and has not yet been located. They were alerted to the vehicle by a citizen driving eastbound on Interstate 84, who reported to police that his car, which he’d reported stolen out of Ada County, had just driven past him.
Minutes later, ISP spotted the vehicle, a Honda Civic, and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver kept going and as it was approaching a school zone on the 300 block of South Happy Valley Road, the trooper performed a PIT (pursuit intervention technique) maneuver that pushed the Honda into a field.
Everyone in the car began to run on foot. The driver, a juvenile from Nampa, was grabbed immediately, as were two passengers. The fourth occupant of the car had not been located at last report.
The 17-year-old boy who was driving has been placed in the custody of the Southwest Idaho Juvenile Detention Center in Caldwell. He faces charges of possessing stolen property, eluding a police officer, unlawful possession of a firearm, and resisting and obstructing an officer.
The two passengers were taken to Canyon County Jail and face charges of possession of stolen property and resisting and obstructing an officer. They are identified as Nikilas Knapp, 18, of Boise and Yisreal Verduzco, 18, of Nampa.
