UPDATE. I-84 NOW OPEN between Hood River and Troutdale. Travelers be advised.

HOOD RIVER

UPDATE: 1/18/24 From ODOT

I-84 is now open between Troutdale (milepost 17) and Hood River (milepost 64) in the Gorge. Chains required between milepost 37 to 63. Traction tires allowed in place of chains on vehicles under 10,000 gross vehicle weight and not towing. Vehicles towing must use chains.

UPDATE: 1/17/24. From ODOT:

Crews report that despite working the closure area all night long with plows, sand, deicer and salt – Mother Nature continues to win.

Freezing rain is still actively falling in this area with high wind gusts. An estimated 3/4 inch of ice is covering everything, making this still unsafe to reopen for travel.

There’s no ETA for reopening, but it’s unlikely to open today (Wed. Jan. 17) based on current conditions.

Truck parking is full and there’s nowhere for folks to be at our closure points. Because of this, we’re asking that drivers do not head toward the closures and instead wait where you’ll have resources until the highway is reopened. We want you safe and comfortable while the crews face the elements to get you back and moving.
