HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council, meeting as the Hermiston Urban Renewal Agency, will convene at 6 p.m. today (Monday) to consider a resolution that would begin the plan to create a new urban renewal district along Feedville Road. The creation of the new district would encourage the development of a master-plan housing community in south Hermiston.
The Hayfields Site, which encompasses 353 acres in the former C&B Feedlot has been zoned for residential use and has the potential to add 1,300 units in a mix of single-family homes, apartments, and senior housing. It would also add a public park and recreation elements.
The Hayfields Site was annexed into Hermiston in the early 2000s. The city has been working with landowners since 2012 on a public/private partnership to develop infrastructure and create a development plan.
The city council will convene following the HURA meeting at about 7 p.m. One of the items on the agenda is to consider a contract to begin work on the first phase of the Teen Adventure Park and Skatepark proposed for 345 S. First Street.
Both meetings are at the Hermiston Community Center and will be carried live on the city’s YouTube channel.
