HUNTINGTON — Residents within the City of Huntington will see continuous rises in their sewer rates over the next few years, according to a release from the city government. By this February, the sewer rates will be set at $50-per-month, and by June of 2027, the rates will have risen to $62.50-per-month. Folks are encouraged to contact Huntington City Hall with any questions. Find the city’s press release below:
(Release from the City of Huntington)
Due to several factors the city will be raising the sewer rates over the next few years. This, unfortunately, is very necessary for the city to secure the funding to discontinue discharging into the river and to able to begin land application. The wastewater department is currently operating at a loss. The rates were supposed to continue to go up past 2018, but due to miscommunications and staff changes it fell through the cracks. The rate increases will be as follows:
Single family residence, small business establishments and churches.
February 1, 2025 – $50.00/month
June, 1, 2025 – $52.00/month
February 1, 2026 – 54.50/month
June 1, 2026 – $56.00/month
February 1, 2027 – $58.00/month
June1, 2027 – $62.50/month
A copy of the proposed resolution is available at city hall for anyone who would like to read it. This was a difficult decision but for the city to be able to comply with DEQ requirements there is no other option.
