HUNTINGTON — The City of Huntington recently issued a reminder to residents that another increase to the sewer rate went into effect on February 1st. Single-family residences, small business establishments, and churches will see an increase from $52-per-month to $54.50-per-month. The incremental increases have been ongoing since February of 2025.
In an earlier release, the City of Huntington cited several factors responsible for the increase. Officials stated, “This, unfortunately, is very necessary for the city to secure the funding to discontinue discharging into the river and to [be] able to begin land application. The wastewater department is currently operating at a loss. The rates were supposed to continue to go up past 2018, but due to miscommunications and staff changes it fell through the cracks.”
