HUNTINGTON — Mayor Chuck Guerri of Huntington has issued a letter to the town’s residents to clarify public concerns regarding parking ordinances and city rights-of-way. The Mayor says if you have items in the city right-of-way that are tagged for removal, removing the tag won’t help anything. Find Mayor Guerri’s letter below:
(From Huntington Mayor Chuck Guerri)
Dear Residents of Huntington.
I would like to take a moment to clarify some of the concerns surrounding the parking ordinances and city right of ways.
The city property surrounding your residence is not for unlimited storage of vehicles, parts of vehicles, vehicles that are not current on licensure, firewood, bathtubs or any other materials or debris. It is also not for long term camping.
I know this may seem to be coming out of the blue, but I can assure you, it is not. These rules and ordinances have existed for years and because they have not been consistently enforced; we have all grown complacent. We need to start following our city ordinances and cleaning up our city.
If your vehicle or other items get tagged by the city for removal, please understand that each incident is documented and peeling the tag off the vehicle does not make the problem go away. Also please understand that if a vehicle has been tagged, there has been a conversation first. First and foremost, every effort is made to communicate one on one and resolve any right of way issues without resorting to tagging vehicles.
The city is here to help however we are able. If you get a vehicle or item tagged, communicate with us a plan of action before the towing date and we will work with you to the best of our ability. Ignoring the tag and not taking action, will result in it being removed from city right of ways.
Thank you, Chuck Guerri
Mayor
