Huntington man loses life in crash on Snake River Road

On January 14, 2026 at approximately 8:42 a.m., Baker County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report of a fatal motor vehicle crash on Snake River Road. A passing motorist came upon the crash site and stopped to render aid. He relayed to dispatchers that one individual was deceased.

Deputies responded to the area and located the vehicle. The sole occupant, identified as Daniel James Racette (39 yoa) of Huntington, Oregon, was found outside the vehicle and had succumbed to his injuries.

During the investigation, it was determined that Racette left his residence in the early evening hours of January 13th and hadn’t returned. While traveling west on Snake River Road, Racette failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway. The vehicle, a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500, rolled multiple times. Racette was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. 

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash.

Baker County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Huntington Fire Department.
