SENECA, OR- Grant County Search And Rescue responded to a call regarding an injured hunter on the morning of Saturday, September 11th, 2021. The accident occurred in the Percival Creek area of Bear Valley. The hunter had apparently fallen and fractured his leg. Members of his party called emergency dispatch from the Gander Ranch around 10:30am.
An Airlink helicopter was called in to assist. SAR members packed the hunter about 500 yards in steep terrain to the landing zone. He was airborne at 2:40pm. Others assisting included the Seneca Ambulance, John Day Ambulance, Grant Co. Sheriff’s Office and area ranchers.
Sheriff Todd McKinley thanked rancher Justin Galbreath for directing emergency personnel precisely to the hunter’s location allowing for a quick response.
