Hunter found deceased half mile up a trail in Grant County

GRANT COUNTY – Sheriff Todd McKinley has issued a press release regarding a hunter who possibly suffered a fatal heart attack on the trail. See the full press release below:

On November 11th 2023 at approximately 3:50 pm the Grant County Emergency Communication Center received a call of a hunter having a possible heart attack at the Fawn springs trail head south of Canyon City. 

CPR was reportedly performed with no positive results. 

First responders arrived on scene to find David M Hoxsey, 57 of La Pine, deceased approximately one-half mile up the Fawn springs trail. 

The location where the victim was found was only accessible by foot or ATV. First responders were able to hike into where Hoxsey was located. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Hoxsey was transported to the trail head with the help of a local hunter in the area. 

The cause of death is yet to be determined. No foul play is suspected. Next of kin was notified. 

Blue Mountain Hospital EMT’s were assisted by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and other elk hunters.
