WALLA WALLA – Blue Mountain Humane Society has reached a 90-day contract extension agreement with Walla Walla County. That will give the county time county to hire an animal control officer.
Last month, BMHS ended its animal control services contract with the county. CEO Amanda Wernert said the society’s primary focus revolves around rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, education, and promoting responsible pet ownership. The long-term provision of animal control services falls outside the scope of its mission.
Wernert also said that although the humane society will no longer provide animal control services after the 90-day period, it will continue to provide sheltering services for Walla Walla County.
