Hull takes his seat on the Pendleton City Council

PENDLETON – Pendleton Mayor McKennon McDonald contacted Round-Up City Development Corporation President Joseph Hull to see if he would be willing to serve on the city council. He was elected to the seat in May, to take office in January. The position opened up with the resignation of Councilmember Sean Butler. At Tuesday night’s meeting, McDonald read his reply to her request.
“I’d be honored to take on the responsibilities at the last meeting in July of 2026, then continue my elected term starting in January of 2027,” she said he wrote.
The council quickly and unanimously welcomed him and he took his seat for his first meeting as a councilmember that night.
Hull enters the job with his priorities set for the future.
“My priorities are to help our beloved Pendleton to grow, help our beloved Pendleton to flourish and expand our reputation as the preeminent Pacific Northwest host city, gain our town’s confidence relating to communication and planning, and solve our sheltering issues and protect our community businesses from recent issues,” he said.
Hull said he returned home to Pendleton after 30 years in development, construction, and design to become vice president at McCormack Construction. He relocated in 2017 and has taken an active role in the community.
He worked with Sen. Bill Hansell, who has since retired, to gain $3 million in state funds for the Pendleton Regional Youth Sports Complex. He has also served eight years on the Pendleton Planning Commission, and was president of the PDC for two years. He has served on the city’s budget committee since 2021 and was a member of the Essential Air Services Selection Committee beginning in 2023.
Hull is the master planning development director for the Pendleton Round-Up. He has also coached Pendleton Little League and served as the chair of the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce 2018 annual meeting, bringing Drew Bledsoe to that event. Professionally, Hull is the chair of the East Region Association of General Contractors.
He and his wife, Michael, are Los Angeles Dodgers fans. They have five children and three grandchildren.
