WALLA WALLA – Work continues on the bridge replacement project at the intersection of Rose Street and Third Avenue. Nelson Construction has been installing the various pieces for the reinforced concrete superstructure of the new bridge.
The contractor is planning to pour the concrete either Thursday, Oct. 14 or Friday, Oct. 15.
“It’s a huge amount of concrete, it’s 1,100 cubic yards and we’re going to attempt to pour all of that in one day, so it’s a single pour for the new bridge deck,” Deputy City Manager Elizabeth Chamberlain said.
Construction began May 24 on the $4.1 million project which replaces a structurally deficient bridge, including improvements for stormwater and pedestrian safety. The new bridge includes stormwater and pedestrian safety improvements. The new bridge should be completed next month.
